Fasting and Colon Cleansing – The Basics

You might be wondering what is common between fasting and colon cleansing. First of all you need to understand a bit about our digestive system. The food that we eat is broken down in the stomach with the help of enzymes. From there it passes on to the small intestine where the nutrients are absorbed. The remainder is passed on to the large intestine where excess water is absorbed. Now the waste is passed to the rectum via the colon and then leaves the body through the anal hole.

Over a period of time the colon gets coated with toxic waste that is picked up from the stool, and eventually this coating becomes so acute that it hampers the proper functioning of the colon. Fasting and colon cleansing helps because during this period we do not eat anything hence the organs that are responsible for discharging waste from our body do not have to work. This apart, the water drunk during the fasting period flushes away the harmful toxins leaving our system clean and fresh.

If you too are facing digestive problems, you should try out fasting for a few days. Initially you should not try it out more than two days at a stretch. Once you have become experienced, you can increase the number of days if so required. It is best to undertake fasting during the weekend. Do not go in for a heavy diet once you have completed the course. Instead take some light snacks and increase the amount of food gradually.
